A Legacy of Service, A Future of Opportunity

Christopher E. Maynard
Good evening, Brothers.
I'd like to begin with a short reading from the Gospel of Luke:
"Rather, let the greatest among you be as the youngest, and the leader as the servant. For who is greater: the one seated at table or the one who serves? Is it not the one seated at table? I am among you as the one who serves."
These words from Christ remind us that true leadership is not measured by titles, authority, or recognition. Instead, it is measured by service. Christ Himself gave us the perfect example, teaching that leadership begins with a willingness to serve others.
As we gather for the final meeting of this Fraternal Year, that message feels especially appropriate. Tonight, we have an opportunity to recognize and thank those Brothers who have answered that call to service on behalf of our council.
Tonight, we have an opportunity to reflect on and appreciate the service that has been given to this council over the past year, and in some cases, over many years.
First, I would like to recognize and thank our outgoing Grand Knight, Tom. For the past three years, Tom has provided leadership, guidance, and countless hours of dedication to our council. Under his leadership, our council has continued to grow, strengthen its presence within the parish and community, and expand the impact we have made through our charitable and service efforts. Thank you, Tom, for your commitment and leadership.
I would also like to offer a special thank you to our outgoing Financial Secretary, Gary. For nine years, Gary has faithfully served in a role that often works behind the scenes but is absolutely essential to the success of the council. Nine years of dedication, organization, and commitment is a remarkable gift to this council. Gary, on behalf of all of us, thank you for your years of service and for all that you have done for this council.
I would also like to thank all of the officers whose terms are ending this year. Every Officer role carries responsibilities, challenges, and commitments of time and energy. The success of our council is built upon the willingness of Brothers to step forward and serve. Thank you for everything you have contributed during your terms.
At the same time, tonight is also about looking ahead.
I would like to congratulate and thank Don as he prepares to take on the role of Grand Knight. Thank you, Don, for your willingness to lead and serve our council.
Thank you as well to Joseph as our incoming Deputy Grand Knight, and to Al as our incoming Financial Secretary. Each of you has accepted a responsibility that requires commitment, leadership, and service.
And to all the Brothers who are stepping into officer positions for the coming Fraternal Year, thank you for answering the call to serve.
Leadership within the Knights of Columbus is not about holding a title. It is about helping the council fulfill its mission of supporting our parish, serving our community, supporting charitable causes, and strengthening the bonds of fraternity among our members.
As one Fraternal Year comes to a close and another begins, let us remember that the strength of this council is not found in any one individual. It is found in Brothers working together, serving together, and supporting one another in pursuit of a common purpose.
To those whose service is ending, thank you. To those whose service is beginning, thank you. And to all our Brothers, thank you for everything you do to make this council what it is today.
May God continue to bless our council, our parish, and each of our families as we begin the next chapter together.
